Green and turned green

Last week we went to visit famous places in Washington DC.
We found the statues which were once believed to be in metal copper color turned to green.
They are pretty good... Here are some of the snaps of the same...

 I was just amazed by the details in the work....
I wonder what these statues would have looked like in original color...
Would they have been more beautiful than they are now???

Beautiful ...copper turns green on exposure to air..

i guess the artist knew it would turn green.. else why would he use copper
